Sounds like this might be the "IE peek-a-boo" bug [1], but I am unable to replicate it on IE6 WinXP, so I can't confirm that. Take a look at Big John's description and see if that helps. Also, what OS are you using?

Interesting on the peekaboo virus, just don't know how I could apply the fixes to my specific situation since it doesn't involve a float...should i give the menu a specific height ?
