Yeah, and given that most new virii are deployed by some bored little
computer geek in the ass-end of East Asia the major antivirus companies can
usually catch the thing before anything becomes too serious. I'm sorry I've
the lost the plot here...what are you bleating on about? Are you saying that
I should never turn on my computer?

I know enough to protect my computer, know enough about how virii are
transmitted and 99% of the time it is enough to keep my computer secure
until the antivirus CAN detect it. And I'm sorry, if you're stupid enough to
open an attachment in an e-mail from somebody you don't know, written in
ridiculously poor English with a file extension reported as system-level or
simply don't know what it is then you deserve everything you get when you
get infected. Harsh I know but I grow tired of widespread infection caused
by people don't use common sense or care to read up a little (and I don't
mean research and in-depth learning).

>> No, but a complete reformat and reinstall will ;)
> And how long until another 0-day will infect you?

And again I say are you suggesting I never turn my computer on? The risk of
viral infection is part of every day life. I know enough to protect myself
and I have accepted it. If I get infected from something unknown then my
firewall will keep prevent my machine from passing things on. If the virus
disables my firewall then I will turn the machine off. This is not exactly
end of the world material is it? And if something end of the world comes
along (like some kind of platform-independant, uber-MS.Blaster which can
dynamically spoof itself as legitimate traffic into your web browser, create
a copy of itself on the fly, disable all protection systems and then run all
manner of system-level processes to turn your hard drive into strawberry
trifle before copying itself back out again) then we're all gonna be fooked.
Only then will I worry about virii. And unless you've played Uplink by
Introversion Software (*strongly* recommended if you like Hollywood hacking
movies) I think the chances of that are slim.

>From some of the stuff I have read on your website you obviously have a
brain. I suggest you use it.

> I won't answer any more mails on this

Why not? You waded in here with the whole "oh my god! computer virii should
be feared and the end is nigh (but only if you use Windows)" melodrama,
throw piecemeal return arguments which do nothing to further your viewpoint
and now you're just shutting up the moment I counter-comment?

Tell you what, convince me you're not a troll and I won't ask Her Divine
Moderatorness to ban your sorry ass.

And to the rest of the list, my sincerest apologies for deviating from our
normal tone - it's been a bad weekend.
