Did you have an ADSL filter fitted to the phone sockets your telephone and your dialup modem were connected into? You need one of those for each non-ADSL item whether it's a phone handset or a dialup modem, to filter out the high signal of the ADSL and also to keep them from interfering with the ADSL.
