Sorry, I should have said I was talking about cable DSL - this is a common 
drawback to cable DSL and
AFAIK no work around other than changing connection/ISP.......

from your description it seems that the problem is progressive which makes the 
cable connection the
likely suspect IMO..... ( unless he uses Alexa, which should have come up in 
the spyware scans...)
