So basically the computer was jostled about in a move and hasn't worked since. Sounds to me like hardware though she could try booting from her original os cd and seeing if that works. Otherwise its either into the repair shop or replacement time. If it is running ME then I'd replace it but my tolerance with old hardware is pretty limited.
