What company is this site hosted with? it sounds like they have some
serious problems with their perl installation. If you use the CGI
library, then you can just print 'print $query->header;' which prints
out a perl compatible html header.
also, do you have access to an SSH command line? if you do, then login
and debug the script 'perl -cw ship.cgi' and any unusual errors or
warnings will display - if not then I am as clueless as you as to the
problem; you have done permissions checks and tried every trick I know
of - maybe this host doesnt have what it takes.
btw - can you use PHP vs Perl? if you can then I would suggest using PHP
instead, since the 500 error should not be happening. as long as a perl
script is CHMODed to 755 and / or resides in the cgi-bin dir, then
everything should work fine.
wish I could give you an answer to this prob, it would have me going
nuts too. I have tried your script on various test beds and it has
worked each time with every variation discussed so far.

I added it in and the script worked. Yay! So now I added in another
print statement and the script gives me the 500 server error again. I
REMOVE what I added in and upload the file as it was and it doesn't
