She doesn't know what she had. She said that things weren't running
properly but didn't go beyond that. I had her uninstall whatever it was
over the phone and so don't know what the name of it was even.

It sounds like she may have 'smitfraud'. Was her desktop hijacked?
I ran into this on a client's computer and it gave me fits trying to
clean it up. I was successful, though, after several hours of
research, and many reboots! :)
