Hi all,

I just noticed now that my mouse pointer seems to "slide" a little now
and then. For example, I will move it up to a button and it will
slide a little past the button (and my aim is fine.) It is an optical
mouse, Belkin. Any ideas what is potting?

TIA,

This is a common phenomenon with optical mice. Go to Google and search on "optical mouse pointer drift" and you will see what I mean. I have observed it with my MicroInnovations, Logitech, and IBM optical mice, so brand does not appear to be a factor (despite what their advertisements may claim). I have been able to decrease the frequency of this occurrence somewhat by cleaning the sensor access port with an alcohol-dampened Q-tip, but the most effective move of all was to ditch the LaRosa's Pizza promotional mouse pad with a picture of a loaded pepperoni pizza that I was using. I now use just the cherry wood desktop as a "pad." Not only has this virtually eliminated the drift, I seldom get those sudden inexplicable urges to go get a little snack while I'm working.

Cheers,
Scott
