I'm transferring from an early model G4 to a new computer running Tiger. And have managed to cause a mess with my fonts. There are two types of fonts: protected system fonts and essential system fonts.

The essential fonts are in the HD library file. I put my old fonts there as well, wanting them to be accessible to any user. Now the fonts are mixed up, MS Word won't open. I ran a scan with a font utility and it seems I've got some pretty corrupted fonts. I'm worried that I'll find out that font issues are wreaking havoc with my computer in other ways. I didn't back up that Tiger-installed fonts file, so I don't know how to put things back the way they were.

I did make a file in Font Book with the files in it which came installed with Tiger. Is there a way to replace the fonts in my HD file with the fonts in that file?

I haven't any money to spend on software, so I need to find manual solutions. Unfortunately, I just don't understand much about fonts, technically.

Thanks,
Kimi
