That's all hogwash. DSL need know nothing about any computer. Never
connect any computer directly to any cable or DSL modem. Get a cable/DSL
internet hardware router/firewall/switch for as little as $40 excluding
any rebates from Staples or Office Depot or Wal Mart or wherever.
"Connect" (network, either wired or wireless) the computer to the
internet router. "Connect" the internet router to the DSL modem. Use
your web browser to configure your internet router with whatever custom
settings SBC may require if it fails to work immediately right out of
the box.
