The changes you make should be almost instantaneous. If it isn't, then you
have a super slow network connection.
I really don't think the connection is slow but I'm going by how fast
my browser can navigate the internet on the computer and it seems to
be pretty fast w/my cable connection.
And for the record, I don't think
I've ever rebooted after making such a change. I can't imagine that my
company would be happy if I rebooted the server everytime I adjusted a
shared folder. Maybe (and I say that with a BIG maybe) that might be
different with XP Home, but I doubt it.
Ok, thanks.
Once you share a folder, by default you will also be sharing all of the
folders within it.
That's what I thought was right since the 2 folders that did work had
files/folders in them and I could seem them fine. It was just a shot
in the dark on my part. What doesn't make sense is that if I can get
2 folders to share why can't I get the other ones to share? I think
that's nuts! Also, something else is going on somewhere because
w/all this sharing stuff I've been trying I've managed to totally
mess up my browser. I have no extensions left in my Firefox browser,
lost my bookmarks (got them back but they did disappear). I have now
UNshared ALL folders. I can't handle much more of this, I'm not only
frazzled and frustrated I'm wasting to much time trying to make this
work when I have work to do. I don't know what I'm going to do next
- keep going back to the idea of just using a cd to transfer
things. Like I said, I could have had it all done by now using a cd,
LOL! instead of all these headaches w/the sharing.
It was mentioned to me by someone that mapping a drive is
cool. Well, I got some instructions for that and that doesn't even
want to work for me. I'm going to try to back out of everything and
maybe then the mapping will work. From what I understand mapping
gives me more of what I'm looking to accomplish and also it *appears*
as though I wouldn't have an issue of overwriting important folders
which is what seems like happened w/my browser.
Of course, with some advanced knowledge you could
tighten the permissions on these folders, but I wouldn't suggest doing that
if you aren't sure what you are doing.
Well, since I apparently have trouble w/the basics I doubt advanced
is a good place for me to venture into, LOL!
