Thanks for the reply Drew. I was thinking of a calendar because they
wanted to be able to update the website themselves (something
idiot-proof) but then started talking about what people would prefer. I
appreciate the feedback.

You'd have to make a virtue of being closed. Something like:
"We are often fully booked for the evening for private parties. Please
call ahead to check seating availability. We'd hate to have you make
the trip only to find out we're hosting a private party."
