RedHat also says metroX is better than xfree86 (which it isn't since it
doesn't have all the support)

By just turning off the power, you are not cleanly unmounting all your
mounting file systems. This causes lost, reorganized, deleted data and
can eventually cause a system to corrupt to the point of reboot. That is
if fsck (sp) doesn't run.
fsck is essentually a defragger pumped up. I have used it to fix many
problems.
