There is an analogy to road travel and splash pages -- the old
Burma Shave ads (my age is showing now).  Signs used to appear
along the highway (six to a set) each containing one sentence or
phrase of a longer slogan.  As you drove along the kids would
read the signs out loud.  They stopped them in the 1950's.

For nostalgia buffs somebody did post to a  Web site (slogans
