Hi All:
I have some very sad news to report re: Al Silverberg. His son
passed away Tuesday morning. He just celebrated his thirteenth
birthday. Al is here in NYC sitting shiva at his mother's house.
On Tuesday, he sent me an e-mail from his nephew's address and
just called me a few minutes ago. I am in tears just thinking
about his loss.
He will be returning to Florida on Monday. Here is the contents
of his note which explains it all ...

Hi George,
I am using my nephews AOL id to send this message. I'm staying at
my sister's house in Piermont, N.Y. It was supposed to be a
happy trip to celebrate my son's thirteenth birthday. As you know
my son suffered from a rare metabolic disorder called Propionic
Acidemia. He got sick while we were upstate N.Y. for his birthday
party and the hospital up there messed up. They then
helicoptered us to Westchester Community Hospital and it looked
like he would do o.k. but after a week and a half his heart gave
out and we lost him this morning. This is the most painful time
of my life and I don't think I'll be participating on the WC list
for a while. The funeral is tomorrow at 1p.m. at New Montefiore
cemetery in L.I. and I will be sitting shiva at my mothers house
in N.Y. for a week. I know the list has been doing ok without my
moderation for a while now and am glad it is still serving a useful purpose.
