ARGH! Because we promised to, that's why.
Bruce's sense of honor was one of the top reasons why I married him. But
I've got to find a way to put a gag on him in meetings so he can't agree to
do something -- because once he's agreed, it's in concrete. (A great
feature when you're trying to get the guy to marry you, but not so great in
the business world!)
Right at the end of the meeting, when we were both shell-shocked, the VP
(who is the decision maker but who we'd never met or heard from before this
meeting) put Bruce on the spot and got a verbal confirmation that we'd get
them the phase II proposal ASAP and would meet again in two weeks. If he'd
asked me I'd have mubled something non-committal, but Bruce's first
instinct is to say yes when he's asked to do something. (Needless to say,
I'm the one who deals with Telemarketers who call -- we own a few too many
special lightbulbs and trash sacks as it is!)
As married business partners we walk an extra fine line when it comes to
correcting each other in public. So I didn't stop him. And now I'm
currently hitting my ahead against the nearest wall and trying to figure
out how to minimize the potential for future damage. Like I said, ARGH.
