Pam:
I've had problems with .art files before. They're compressed image
files created specifically on AOL for web downloads. As far as I can
tell, they're a proprietary format where most of the compression is
achieved by reducing the image size rather than the typical kind of
compression you get in .gif and .jpg forms. They show up when the AOL
user has their browsing options set for maximum speed/compression.
The bug that bit me was the effect on a background image - the art
files made a perfectly fine 100 X 1280 jpg into a 50 X 640 .art file.
! There went my meticulous columnar table layout !
I don't know of a viewer for these files except maybe the AOL browser.
Then there's the problem of where these images came from .... can you
say copyright infringement?
