     Uh...

On the one hand, they are right, we should all have universal
internet access. And requiring the USPS have internet access, and
allowing that and subsidized access to schools, MIGHT be a good way to
insure the wiring of America.

On the other hand, since when did the USPS, or the government, do
anything economic and practical? I still remember when the USPS wanted to
charge First Class postal fees on the Punch Card Equivalent(!) weight of
magnetic tapes shipped via non USPS couriers... Yes, they actually said
that, and wanted to prosecute said couriers for carrying First Class mail
in contravention to The Law. I think it was in the early 70's. Later,
they were going to use satelites and fax machines to reconstiture your
mail for you to speed transit... except for the little point that some
clerical personage could now read your "sealed" mail along the way.

What? The USPS is proposing... (correct me if I am wrong,) to PRINT
out library books and reference materials for people??? In what,
violation of their own copyright laws?

And what, create another electronic infrastructure apart from the one
that already exists?

I mean, yes, we would do well to have the USPS and the schools all
get internet access in some manner. But NO, not the USPS taking over the
job of being ISP. Cause then the US Govt has clear access to all our
correnspondence. (Not that some of that is not monitored already...)

Typical burro-cratic act: Read questions in Washington DC, then
travel to Pueblo, Colorado to answer the questions...
