Thanks to Peter Shoenster, Andrew Clark and Jack Killpatrick.
Peter I'm able to convert text to Access file and vice versa too but
what I need now is to achieve enough experience on SQL queries,
ODBC etc...
Access is a good starting point, and it shouldn't be difficult to
migrate from Access to SQL if I use ASP.
Sorry I have to work with MS product. It wasn't my choice.
In the near future when I'll have a 3rd PC I'll have finally my Linux
box... just for experimental purpose and to achieve more
knowledge, current job do not admit other product that aren't MS
sorry.
Andrew Thanks for the URL. I'll take a look exactly when I'll send
this email.
It eems there is a version problem, but it doesn't seem it is the
problem is stopping evrything to work. Anyway I'll try to upgrade
evrything...
Finally Jack...
Ok, I can't remember what application has installed ODBC but the
last that tried to install it was ASP for PWS.
What I have understood is that ODBC is a standard interface to a
DB and it is object structured (Object.Method(paramethers))
I need to do some experience with ODBC since I'll work with ASP
and MS SQL. If I'll wrote ASP code for ODBC I won't need to
change it. The easyest choice for me was to chose an Access DB
snce I have Access and I have ODBC driver for Access and
evrything seems to have a reasonable size to not kill my NT
machine.
What seems to me is that ODBC driver for Access are installed,
but I don't know if they are installed well and I really don't know how
to use and test ODBC driver manager.
I've setup a System DSN but things doesn't seem to work...
There are 4 possibilities:
1) I didn't do a good job setting up the DSN and other parameters
on the ODBC Manager in control panel
2) There is something else that should be modyfied in the setup of
my NT machine (autorizations, mdb file in wrong directory, other
thing to setup)
3) Wrong versions
4) Access must be installed on the NT machine
I think the most probable problem is point 2)
Second candidate is point 1)
I'm SURE I do all the coding in ASP in the right way!!!!
Is there someone who can tell me exactly how he/she setted up
the configuration of ODBC manager in control panel for an Access
DB?
Meanwhile I'll update evrything to exclude point 3)
I think that setting up an ODBC connection should be a really easy
thing and the problem resides in some misconfiguration on my
machine in some stupid place, but since I'm not sure if I've
configured the ODBC driver in the right way finding the problem is
hard.
TIA
