Had a bit of a giggle this evening... checked out the NetObjects
ScriptBuilder software site, and was annoyed to see, upon hitting the
'Download Demo' button, one of those infuriating questionnaires appear
demanding my name, address, phone # and so on.
As a matter of principle I no longer download products that insist on such
information -- I still receive way too much digital and surfacemail spam
from completing such forms in the past -- and was about to say forget
about it, when I noticed that all of the "required fields" were already filled
in; and to my temporary amazement and confusion, I saw they were filled
in pretty much as I normally would have done myself in the past:
First Name: Bill
Last Name: Gates
Postal Code: 12345
Phone: 456-7890
etc. Jeez, how did they KNOW that?? Paranoia time...
Then it occurred to me, "Huh, I bet they get about 1,000 "Bill Gates's" a
day here with spurious addresses and whatnot; guess they're just
thoughtfully saving me the trouble of filling that in myself." (Dunno where
they got "Schenectady, New York" as the default city and state, mind
you.)
Anyway, nice to see a big software house with an apparent sense of
humour :) Haven't had a chance to try the software itself yet, but will
keep you posted once I do.
