ONLINE SIMPLETONS SCREW UP STARR/INTERNET ANALYSIS:
WHY THE WEB PUNDITS ARE ALL WRONG. AGAIN

http://www.anchordesk.com/a/adt0914ba/2540

We learned a lot from the Starr Report. About the
Internet. About our online future. And about the
ignorance of online pundits. They say the event proved
the Web's dominance. No! It proved *television's*
power. They say it was a landmark for Internet democracy.
No! It showed how vulnerable we are. These and other
mistakes exposed, at the Web site.

>From this story:

               .... this
pointed out how far we have to go before the government can
                  depend on the Internet. Consider:

                        * Virtually all government servers melted down
(NetRatings)
                        * 89% of all attempts to access the House of
Representatives
site were unsuccessful (Keynote Systems, supplier of
                         Internet performance data)
                        * Even if you were interested in other government
matters,
                         you couldn't get through.

That's right. The United States Government was blacked
out on the
Internet by a sex scandal. Now suppose we were attacked by
terrorists... Declared war... Had a 1929-style financial
crisis...
