>>WHITE HOUSE MULLS NEW INTERNET TAX PROPOSAL
>>Ira Magaziner, President Clinton's senior Internet advisor, has proposed a
>>new plan for tracking and taxing goods sold over the Internet that would use
>>electronic "resident cards" and private-sector escrow agents around the
>>world.

someone check my facts, but hasn't a three-year moratorium on 'net tax
proposals been declared? i know that congress has at least discussed it.
if that's the case, this proposed scheme, or any other, couldn't be put in
place until 2001, at which point, Clinton's opinion of the web will make a
lot less difference.

as a tactical aside, those interested in the political future of the web
might keep their eyes open for opportunities to make a good online presence
look important in the upcoming presidential election. we may as well teach
those who aspire to a place in the public eye that keeping us 'netizens
happy is a Good Thing, and pissing us off is a Bad Thing. vox populii,
at T3 bandwidth.. ;-)
