Have been following the thread about IPPs with interest, as I'm thinking
it's about time to move to a new one; but JEEZ the current world
economic unrest puts a damper on any plans this Canadian may have to
purchase US goods or services.
Our poor multi-coloured dollar has been dropping dangerously in
comparison to its American counterpart lately, to the point where, when I
look at an American price on something, I automatically tack on a 40% to
50% surcharge so as to approximate its final cost to me.
For instance, I recently bought some software over the Web from the US.
The price listed was $59, "slightly higher in Canada". This I'm used to,
because of the costs of shipping across the border and whatnot, so I
ordered.
Anyway -- got my Visa bill today with that purchase on it. My price was
$US 69 (fair enough), to which was added the exchange rate and a
bank service charge: the final cost to me in Canadian dollars was $108!
Yow.
I dunno, may be time to start looking into one of them-there US "green
cards" :)
