Huh... the system *does* work sometimes.
Got a lengthy get-rich-quick spam today from a hotmail.com address.
Between my and my ISP's spam filters I actually receive very little of the
stuff, so it irks me when I do.
Looked up hotmail's complaints section on the Web, and sent a copy of
the offending mail to abuse @hotmail.com. I asked to be notified if/when
the violator was either reprimanded or turfed out.
Just six hours later I received the following from them:
We have closed the account that you reported. Hotmail does not
condone or support the sending of junk email (aka "spam")
through our system. The Hotmail Terms of Services (TOS) strictly
forbids sending unsolicited email and we terminate all reported
accounts that are in violation of the TOS. We appreciate your
mail alerting us to the spammer using our system. Our ANTI-SPAM
policy can be found at http://www.hotmail.com/nospam.html
Glad to see they take spam seriously. And I guess the moral of the story
is, "Don't get mad, get even".
