I tried to look at it twice on NS 4/Mac, and it crashed the browser
immediately upon connecting with your server.
I was curious to see what was going on, so I opened it up on IE 4. This
time it worked OK. A few things hit me right away. First, the big nav
buttons at the top would look much better saved as low bit-depth GIFs
instead of as JPEGs. The JPEG compression cause those ugly little artifacts
that appear around the letters. Second, I would specify border=0 in those
image tags.
Before I could go any further, IE crashed too. Sorry, three times you're out!
Before this crash, I took a look at the source. Man, I've never seen so
much code to accomplish so little design in all my life!!! A lot of it is
unrecognizable to me, and I've been hand-coding since '94. Looks like it
might be FrontPage proprietary crap. My first recommendation would be to
ditch FrontPage and go with Homesite for the PC or BBEdit for the Mac,
either of which will generate much cleaner code and probably help prevent a
lot of these crashes. Before the last crash, I noticed hints of possible
use of stylesheets. That seems a little excessive for such a simple web
site. I would suggest that you go back and learn some basic HTML so you can
reduce your dependence on FrontPage.
Finally, you've got a bunch of icons at the bottom of the page that
increase your load time without accomplishing much. I would consider
dropping any that aren't absolutely necessary. I don't usually like WebRing
fragments, but the one you've used is kind of sweet. If I were going to use
it, I'd cut out all the other junk from the fragment and replace it with
simple hypertext links, keeping only the little GIF animation.
