Peter , Gary and all,
Perhaps the question deserves some thought. Looking for a partner only when
you have run out of capital isn't the best option either.
Expansion strategies, especially if they are aimed at an exit-scenario of
selling the company to a big fish in the Media world, may need a lot of
capital.
A partner can contribute to strategic planning or bring in entrepreneurial
skills that are harder to get from an employee.
When you think of the synergy that partnership can bring, Gary, you first
have to ask yourself: can I *be* a good partner.
When the answer is yes, then you can set out to *find* a good partner.
There is also the option of finding the "successful independent guy" ,
employ him and give him an option to become a partner, say, after a year.
But you may have more chance finding a not-so-successful independent
operator, who finds with you just what (s)he needs to become successful.
Success!
