I used to live in Humboldt County, in the far hinterlands of Northern
California, and sometimes would drive 6 hours to go to a concert in Berkeley
(near San Francisco). That was a bit on the extreme side, I agree, but the
way I thought about time and distance definitely changed when I moved to CA
from New Jersey many years ago; when I lived in Jersey we'd pack a lunch to
drive 45 minutes.
