And we still do <g>.

Actually the best I ever heard was 15 years ago when I involved
in rodeos.  We had many rodeo riders come in from Wyoming for the
summer and they would think nothing of driving from Lake George
NY, to outside Philadelphia (~~ 500 miles) to ride the rodeo for
the evening then drive home to work the next day.  This was with
a horse trailer behind them!  The said in Wyoming it was not
uncommon to travel 500 - 1,000 miles as rodeos were few and far between.
