Just think this through, Janice. Do only Win machines get assigned an IP
address when they log on...or does everyone? This is clearly spam...and I
would hope this is not being forwarded any longer. Hardly a major security
hole...just the facts of how you login. And a couple of other subtle truths
and absurdities.
Curious, does anyone know what group sent this out and what they are selling
to "protect you"?

Subject: WC:>: security hole found in Windows 95, 98, & NT
I received this info from another group. Does anyone here have any
knowledge, comments, concerns regarding this issue.....Thanks
-----------
A new major security hole has been found in Windows 95, 98, & NT.
Internet users should be forewarned that the private information they
store on their computers is not private anymore.
When a user logs on to the Internet, they're logging on to a WAN Wide
Area Network). Once logged on, the users are vulnerable to Internet
hackers. These hackers can simply go right into the
user's computer with very simple windows commands.
You can be sitting in front of your monitor and the hacker can be
traveling around inside of your hard drive, downloading and deleting
files, and you wouldn't even know it.
The hacker, as well as some unscrupulous ISP (or employee) can go
through your email, see what web sites you've visited (by looking
through your browser's cache), get into your spreadsheets
and databases, get credit card numbers, phone numbers, passwords, find
out information regarding your children, and the list goes on. Hackers
print this information for use and distribution.
Whenever you sign online you are given what is called an IP address by
your Internet Service
This is the "address" the hackers use to come up into your system. Some
ISP's give you a different IP Address each time you sign on and others
always give you the same IP Address, every time.
This IP address is revealed every time you visit a web site or send an
email. There is far less privacy or anonymity on the Internet that one
would think.
