Something else that I've noticed about Dr Steve's images is that they
appear to have all been scanned from printed materials. The screen pattern
from their previous conversion to halftone images is likely to contribute
to their blotchiness, regardless of browser. It would probably help to run
Photoshop's (Noise) Despeckle filter on them. You may need to unsharp mask
a little after despeckling. Some scanner software programs such as my
Umax's have built-in de-screen function, but usually I prefer the despeckle
filter because it doesn't blur the image quite so much as the Umax
de-screen filter.

While you're at it, it would be a great improvement to straighten the Dr.
Vicker's scan -- it's really crooked!
