For the money, the Xclaim VR card is a great card. I used it on a project
for NASA. Get the 4MB VRAM upgrade. It's not a Firewire card, so it won't
do direct data transfer from a DV camcorder. But if your camcorder has an
S-video connection, you don't have a problem. By the time you lower frame
size and compress the video for the web, 400 lines of resolution still
looks awfully good, especially if you use the Sorenson codec.
I am about to buy the Canon Optura camcorder for a project ($1800, street).
It's only a single CCD camera, but it's flexibility and control is
incredible. If you really need a 3 CCD camera, you can always rent a Canon
XL-1 to shoot your video and use the Optura to feed it onto disk. They use
the same cassette.
Canon makes a capture card for Windows for about $350, street.
