Gerry,
here's an answer from the Advanced-HTML list.

My last question was:

from a clean install on a testbed of ours at work, the answer to the
last one is as follows
Arial
Arial Bold
Arial Bold Italic
Arial Italic
Courier New
Courier New Bold
Courier New Bold Italic
Courier New Italic
Times Roman
Times Roman Bold
Times Roman Bold Italic
Times Roman Italic
Wingdings
Symbol
Comic Sans Ms
All the above are TrueType fonts.
There are also
Courier 10,12,15
Modern
MS Sans Serif 8,10,12,14,18,24
MS Serif 8,10,12,14,18,24
Small Fonts
Symbol 8,10,12,14,18,24
All the above are fon fonts.
However, most installs have more than that because each ms package
seems to add more fonts.
"@ndi Twine" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> suggests a trial and error
method:
Win 95 needs System, Courier, Arial and Times New Roman. I THINK
that's it. To find out what fonts it does need, move lots of the fonts
to a temporary directory and if it doesn't make a fuss, you can delete
them. Keep on going until you find some fonts it does need and then just
move them back into the Fonts folder.
And finally Janice Karin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes:
Not only to most applications assume all of the default fonts are
present and make free use of them. To make matters worse, many
applications install their own fonts and freak out if they disappear. I
know this is not what you want to hear, but I wouldn't touch any of your
fonts.
Hmmm, thanks everybody for the suggestions and the warnings. Well I'll
not touch the basic fonts but might try the trial method for the rest.
Anupam.
