The problem is simply that I have to accurately tune a station that I can't
normally hear. You can't tune an analog dial if you can't hear it. You
should only be able to hear the meteor when it passes. So if you can simply
dial up the desired frequency of station you are then (pretty) sure that
it's "on" the station.

If you can find yourself a suitable station to "listen" to, you can do it
anytime... right now! Of course it should be much better during a
shower/storm like the Leonids.

See this URL for a calender of showers.

(and the Java Moon applet is also great.:)

This site, http://www.chiangmainews.com/leonids/ talks about streaming the
Leonids video via Real Video. I was thinking of doing a Real Audio stream
but I don't really have a way of getting the car radio sound into my
computer.... ok a 14m cable from the car radio speaker wires into my sound
card would probably do it but I'm not keen on it.

I just sat in the car for 30mins with my four year old playing in the back
and we heard several meteors... he was very good and got excited when he
heard them. "Daddy that's my first meteor!" ;-) Ok... it's probably a boy
thing... but listening to static in the hope of hearing a meteor is far
more exciting and worthwhile than watching golf or football on TV that's
for sure.

Actually I'm quite keen on the idea of the availability of raw or first
hand data sources on the net. One of the most basic is the old web cam.
Then there are weather stations, telescopes, robots etc. I'm about to ask
our state dept of the environment if they can publish in real time, data
from some of their polution monitoring sites. They presently do a summary
sometimes.

thanks
Bruce
