I have run NT, and I run Linux. Linux stays up for weeks on end. Irix
and Sun stay up for months! NT, if it does not crash in a few days, when
anything strange starts happening, we reboot. The strangeness goes away
each time. This is under developer loads, heavy compiles, etc.

While I tend to agree with some parts of Rich's comments, I do believe
that the vast number of applications packages for NT/95 tend to weigh in
favor of it's use on the desktop.
However, I will say that a properly set up X windowing system is
superior to anything that I have seen on Windows. But... that is properly
set up... I have had considerable problems getting there on Linux. And
the number of applications is considerably smaller.
What Linux/Unix systems are good for, include serving web pages,
massive databases, and developing custom applications via Perl and other
scripting type languages. In those areas, it will beat NT hands down!
Given Intelligent users pitted against each other on NT and UNIX
systems... non-applications use, the winner would be UNIX, hands down!
The number of tools would allow them to craft whatever was needed to get
things done. Far superior system!
Semi-Skilled users... particularly if they are just using
applications... it would be Windows only because of the number of
semi-skilled user type applications available.
Off the street unskilled users, and the winner would be Windows by a
fair margin.
