well, by this definition -- Yahoo.Mail is a Luser .... I use it for
retreiving mail from "home" because it allows me to bypass the firewall
constraint. But all too often, it doesn't know how to interpret a name &
address in the "from" line -- I hit reply, send -- then get "bounced" ....

yes there are newbies on AOL .. .but just being on AOL does NOT
automatically make someone a "loser" of any type. It is a service that fits
a market niche -- one that is growing, btw, and one that is more-than-likely
far more "mainstream" than those of us who use this medium daily for work.

personally, i still recommend that non-techie, first-time users consider
getting and using an AOL account for a month or two before committing to an
ISP. assuming, of course, they are in a "dial up" zone (which my parents are
not, in that event, I'm like Suz).

to use an analogy i've used before -- right or wrong -- most people don't
know how to personally do minor maintenance on their cars (like change oil).
the car is a "tool" and they take it to a specialist for that need. the
market for cars is FAR more mature than for computers ... which is more
mature than the Net. average folks want their computers and their Net access
to be as painless as dealing with a modern (circa late 90s) automobile.

frankly, i think that is a *reasonable* desire. so does don norman. read his
latest book.
