I agree with Kathy that AOL is an excellent service and choice for lots of
people. In fact, unless someone has a specific professional need to be on
the "real" Internet, I would recommend AOL.
More than anything, however, I'm disturbed by the tendency to paint any
class of people by such a broad brush. It seems hate-filled and negative to
an extreme. Take the woman who posted her query to WC instead of Webgrrls.
I simply wrote her a short polite note saying that she'd accidentally
posted to the wrong list. Even intelligent people make mistakes; I saw no
reason to jump to the conclusion that she was a 'luser.' I would choose
pleasant people who make mistakes occasionally over people who harbor such
extreme negativity any day.
And personally, I'm glad for the rush of newbies to AOL and the Internet,
as our Web design business has increased to reflect the increased
popularity of online services.
