Koen, thanks for the background, and thanks to everyone who responded, I
really got something going with this topic ;-)

Since I have 15 years of nasty PC habits <G>, it won't be a big deal for me
to do as you describe: open files transferred from my PC to a Mac by
opening them in the app instead of double-clicking on them in a folder, as
that's the way I normally operate. Even though in Win95 you can open files
directly from the Explorer (file manager window) I never do, since old
Windows didn't work that way.

I'm sure glad that the Mac OS8.1 now interprets Win95 "alias" long file
names correctly: that was going to be a big problem for me if it didn't.

Now, if Windoze would just get smarter so that when Mac users send me a
file name (with of course no DOS extension) Windoze could tell me what the
heck the file type is.

But once I get my new Mac, I'm not going to have to deal with these
annoyances...
