Well, I did it. Sold out, kind of. As of December 7, I will no longer be a
self-employed consultant, as I've been for the past eight years. Instead,
I will be the new Webmaster at the Bank of Canada, a federal agency
roughly comparable to the US Treasury Department.
It was a tough decision in some ways. There are a lot of aspects to self-
employment that I value and enjoy. But I also value financial stability,
which self-employment has never entirely afforded me. And with my new
extended family I also increasingly crave such arcane notions as "leisure
time" (and paid vacations and medical benefits and pension plans and so
on.)
Anyway... my first priority will be a complete redesign of the Bank's
current site, a project I'm really looking forward to. I'll also have some
ancillary editorial responsibilities such as speechwriting, which I haven't
done for quite a few years. I'm looking forward to an occasional break
from agonizing over cross-platform Web design anomalies, truthfully :)
So... I'll still be active on WC, though likely a little less so than in the
past. Also, I'll let you know in a couple of months when my new version of
the Bank's site is in place.
