> If this US-centric trend continues unabated, I foresee the Web
becoming the equivalent of America telelvision: a mass-entertainment
octopus dominating culture and marketing in nations around the world, at
the expense of distinctive regional culture and voices. Just the sort of
intellectual imperialism the Web (at one time) semed poised to do away
with.
Brent, a Canadianer (a neighborhood somewhere north of Des Moines),
complains about "intellectual television imperialism" running beserk on the
web.
Let's remember here that the absolute-number-one-nothing-else-even-close
"personality" on the web is Pamela Lee Anderson, a Canadianer. Yep. Read his
paragraph again. "Mass-entertainment octupus dominating culture" (...) "at
the expense of regional culture and voices." Of course, to a Canadianer,
Pamela Anderson is their kind of intellectual imperialism, but of course,
they never had the good sense to abandon a snow drift.
Let's boycott Pamela Anderson for a week. That'll bring Canada to its knees.
