I haven't initiated a cold call to a recruiter in years. I maintained
cordial relations with four or five recruiters and when I was within three
weeks of finishing my contracts, I sent updated resumes to my main
recruiters and posted my resume to www.dice.com , www.vjf.com , and
www.headhunter.net . That generally resulted in two-five calls per day to
me, asking if I'd be interested in a contract. I was very good at screening
out the uninteresting ones (obsolete technology, not enough money, more than
20 miles away, etc.) The result was that I went from contract to contract,
with only a few days of downtime inbetween.
