I've looked at several products that claim to "speed up" your Win95/98
dial-up connection, and they all achieve this in roughly the same ways:
(a) changing some of the default settings in your Registry; (b) locally
caching pages and/or DNS information.
Both will make some difference on some systems, but not a whole lot.
And I wouldn't pay much money for such applications, because you can
achieve the same ends for free with a minimal amount of savvy.
The Registry changes are (comparatively) simple, just a matter of
adjusting the values for your MaxMTU, RWIN, TLL and MSS. There are
numerous pages around that will walk you through the process. Here's

For page caching, I've been reasonably impressed with a free Win95 utility
called NetSonic:
