There seems to be a backlash on slashdot RE having to pay for Windows on a
machine that you plan to run Linux on.
A friend of mine in AZ (female) successfully got her $ back two years ago -
but had a helluva time doing so. She said customer service didn't realize
that their machines could run on anything except DOS/Windows <g>.
Here's a ZD story on the OEM dissatisfaction & the evidence in the DOJ case
documenting MSFT's insistence that OEMs bundle MSIE on the desktop.

ALSO - only the favored OEMs get prices as low as $60-70 for the OS --
others basically pay retail.
