Just to bring all of this back closer to on-topic, I'm looking
for a Palm-xxx device that can run a little web browser.

My application: I have a fair amount of home automation and
would like to put wall-mounted touchpad displays in each of
15 or so locations in my house. I really don't want to drop
$500 on each.

So my idea is to buy a bunch of obsolete Palm-whatevers that
I can mount permanently in a J-box, with a cheap wall-wart
power supply and a single twisted-pair to the nearest PC with
multiple serial ports. My hope is that I can get away with
$150 or less per unit. I'd want to run a rudimentary web
browser in each that talks HTTP over the serial line to
the PC and then over the home LAN to one of the (currently
five) web servers on the LAN or even out the ISDN line to
the Internet and the World. It would be wonderful if the
units would also support a 1-Wire port, for local iButton
sensors reading temperature, IR input, contact closures,
indicator LEDs, etc.
