Trying to gauge the state of XML is a little like trying to
understand the impact of ASCII. There must have been a time
when the standard for mapping Western alphanumeric characters
to their equivalent keyboard values was controversial, when
developers crowed at how easy it was going to make their jobs
and marketers proudly pointed to how "ASCII compliant" their
products were. But we don't do that anymore.
