The previous record of 6000 was set by one of Steve Jobs' keynotes at MacWorld. I should point out that Linus seems to do stuff like this. A year ago this week, Linus spoke at SVLUG's 10th anniversary meeting, which was the first to be held in Cisco's Gateway Conference Center. (We knew we needed a bigger room for his talk.) We had 500 people in a room with capacity for 350. It was obviously a record for SVLUG. More surprisingly, it was also a record for Cisco's conference center. The record still stands today, even though the room has since hosted other bigwhigs since then like the Vice President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Russia (at the same time), the US Secretary of State, the Governor of California, etc...
