Yeah, and I like your mentioning of checking lookup times between B&N
and Amazon. Might be interesting.
I have only used mSQL and mysql. I have never had to take either one
off-line to do anything. I routinely dump and extract megabytes of
data through them all online and I am often go and check how they are
responding on the web while I am doing this (actually I only do
megabytes with mSQL). mysql, btw, is much better at dumping and
extracting than msql.
BTW, I inherited msql on a Digital Unix and here is the uptime:
18:05 up 113 days, 1:40, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
113 days. Incredible I think.
I think mysql is a pretty interesting option for web use.
Does anyone know of any virtual host who offers Oracle? It would be
great to play. iserver says they plan on it but they still can't
help me get mod_perl or fastcgi to work there.
