Jason -
Do you have a programmer's background (i.e. have you programmed in another
language such as C)? A couple of good techie books, imo, are the O'Reilly &
Associates books "Programming Perl" (for the Perl Programming language) and "CGI
Programming" (for CGI and database - there's a whole chapter devoted to CGI
database programming).
Now that I've jumped into the fray, I should (re-)introduce myself.... I was
quasi-active on this list probably about a year or so ago, but when my schedule
became too hectic, I dropped off (at the time I was working fulltime and running
a web hosting/consulting business fulltime). I'm happy to say that in the past 4
months I've dropped the 'security' job to pursue my business fulltime, moved onto
high speed servers that are connected to several backbones of the Internet,
restructured our website, and reformed my business as an LLC... all at the same
time as taking care of my customers, and developing new leads! I'm just as busy,
but more focused... and after four years of both working fulltime and running my
own business; I can honestly say that while my previous daytime boss was nicer, I
enjoy working for my new boss even better.
To everyone (anyone?) who remembers me, "hi again!"... I recognize many of the
posters still.
Best Regards,
Brett Rabideau
