Without commenting on the average MS user (though I'll admit that to
remind myself of who they are, I take careful notice of consumer
behavior while standing in line at WalMart  :p), you do bring up a good
point.

If this was a car, you'd be getting a recall notice that forced the car
company to notify you of the "feature" you shouldn't have, bring it to
the nearest service center, and have it replaced *for* you, at their
expense for parts and labor.  Perhaps there's something to look into
here.

If software companies and computer makers had to *pay* for the service
call to fix bugs or hardware screw-ups, you'd see a lot less crappy
software and hardware screwups.  Might also boost the OSS market
(couldn't charge to fix something that you got for free).

just a thought . . .
