Given that MS owns a chunk of them, I'd especially question this.
Annoncements like this are more often than not the start of advertising
binges.
But if you can find the footnotes and track them down, the story is
usually put in better perspective. MS's recent thing about NT scaling
as well as any version of UNIX was like that. If you took the time to
find the actual research paper at ZDNET research, you found that it
didn't actually say that--it said UNIX scaled much better than NT--but
that in one or two of numerous categories NT held its own (like ability
to interface directly with Exchange server *chuckle*). The study was
also paid for by MS.
My guess is they probably have gains, but when you analyze the actual
sites involved in the monitoring, the results will be limited to
specific "portal sites" visited by the same people that still have a
closet full of 8 tracks and can't understand why no one makes 8-track
players anymore. :P
But on that note, it doesn't surprise me that they've sold *some* WebTV
sets. Yugos sold well for some time, people pay premium prices for
cloth-filled beanbags with names and AOL has 15 million subscribers.
Some people will buy anything :P
