Devices have been on the market for some time to allow remote print
handling via ethernet. Most UNIX and Linux releases have a facility for
accepting remote print jobs, though this may not always be enabled.
Windows has added this ability as well. It is essential in any
multi-computer office setting.
Reaching out to spool this over the internet is another matter,
however. That requires agreeable protocols, (IP Forwarding, for example,)
which must be implemented by default across multiple platforms.
It also requires some legal work to chop off the hands of spammers
who would use up your paper, ink, and other resources for their
advertising. (Image, Spamford Wallace using two hooks. Didn't learn the
first time!) I have a client who advocates the death penalty for
spamming, and says he would be glad to throw the switch. (Shudder) His
rational is that time spent dealing with spam rapidly exceeds the
man-years of a human life span, and is thus tantamount to committing
murder. (I know a few authors who probably qualify with their
over-promoted poor quality books.)
